He deserted his father Vishrava and went to live with his grandfather. Pleased with this, Lord Brahma conferred him with immortality and also gave him the all the riches of the world (Nidhis). It was also Lord Brahma who awarded him Pushpaka Vimana.
Other than Hindu mythologies, Lord Kubera is also featured in the Jain and Buddhist mythologies.
In Buddhism, he is one of the four heavenly kings associated with cardinal directions, and is known as Vaiśravaṇa.
On the other hand, in Jainism, Kubera is the attendant Yaksha of the 19th Tirthankar Mallinath. He is called Sarvanubhuti or Sarvahna.
There are also various temples and festivals dedicated to Lord Kubera. In India, he is often worshipped with Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and success, especially during Dhanteras and Diwali.
It is believed that those who chant his mantra ‘Oṃ Shaṃ Kuberāya Namaḥ’ 108 times are blessed with wealth and financial success.
